Lagos Teacher Who Assaulted 3-Year-Old Pupil Suspended Indefinitely

Stella Nwadiogo, the teacher at Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos State, who was filmed assaulting a three-year-old pupil, has been suspended indefinitely.

The video, which went viral on Wednesday, showed Nwadiogo repeatedly hitting Michael Abayomi for struggling to write the number ‘six’ correctly.

The incident sparked public outrage, leading to Nwadiogo’s arrest on Wednesday. In response to the controversy, Christ Mitots School issued a statement condemning the teacher’s actions as contrary to the school’s values.

“The video circulating on social media reveals conduct that is entirely unacceptable and inconsistent with our school’s values,” the statement read. “We are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students, and such behaviour will not be tolerated.”

The school confirmed that Nwadiogo had been suspended indefinitely, pending a full investigation.

“We have taken immediate action by suspending the teacher involved while a thorough investigation is conducted. This reflects our zero-tolerance approach to any form of misconduct, especially actions that compromise the safety and well-being of our students.”

The school also offered an apology to the victim’s family, assuring them of full support during this time.

“To the family of the affected pupil, we extend our sincerest apologies and have reached out to ensure their concerns are addressed,” the statement added.

Additionally, the school announced new measures to prevent future incidents, including mandatory teacher training on positive discipline and child protection. A confidential whistle-blowing system has also been implemented to allow for the reporting of inappropriate behaviour.
