Ondo LG Polls: Aiyedatiwa Mobilises Support for APC Candidates

Ahead of the January 18th local government elections in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has intensified efforts to mobilize support for the chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state’s 18 local government areas.

The event, held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, brought together party stakeholders to strategize for the upcoming elections. Governor Aiyedatiwa started the event by observing a minute of silence in honor of the late Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, acknowledging his exemplary contributions to the development of the state.

In his address, Governor Aiyedatiwa stressed the importance of consolidating the party’s success from the recent governorship election. He emphasized that this election is not just about winning but about reinforcing the APC’s position as the leading party in the state.

“We have set a strong foundation as a party, and it is now up to us to build on it. This election is not just about winning but about proving that our party remains the leading voice of the people. I assure you of my unwavering support as we head to the polls, but I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach,” he said.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also encouraged the candidates to demonstrate dedication and competence throughout their campaigns and in their potential roles, highlighting the importance of maintaining the impactful governance already established in the state. He urged them to show commitment to the party and to the people, ensuring they deliver on their promises at the grassroots level.

Earlier in his welcome address, State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin congratulated the candidates on their emergence, reminding them of the significant responsibility ahead. He urged them to remain true to the party’s values and not to disappoint the trust placed in them by the party and the people.

“This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people. Do not disappoint us. Be good ambassadors of the APC, and above all, do not betray the trust reposed in you,” Adetimehin said.

He also encouraged the candidates to intensify their grassroots campaigns to ensure victory in the local government elections while promoting the APC’s agenda of good governance.

In response, Gbenga Fasua, the APC candidate for Akure South, expressed gratitude on behalf of the candidates for the opportunity to represent the party, thanking the governor and party leadership for their support and guidance.
