Presidency Accuses Bauchi Governor of ‘Irresponsible Politics’

The Presidency has criticized Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, accusing him of engaging in “irresponsible politics” and urging him to focus on addressing the urgent challenges within his state instead of using President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a political distraction.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency expressed disappointment over what it described as the governor’s failure to prioritize the well-being of the residents of Bauchi, many of whom are among the most impoverished in Nigeria.

“Governor Bala Mohammed is playing irresponsible politics rather than tackling the many issues plaguing Bauchi State. The people of Bauchi, who are still among the most impoverished Nigerians, deserve better leadership and governance,” the statement read on Friday morning.

The Presidency pointed out that while President Tinubu is focused on national development and boosting the country’s economy, Governor Mohammed appears more interested in political grandstanding than fulfilling his responsibilities to the people of Bauchi State.

“President Tinubu has a national mandate to deliver on his promises, and Nigerians are already seeing the benefits of his reforms,” the statement said. “Meanwhile, the question for Governor Bala Mohammed is clear: what is he doing to improve the lives of the people of Bauchi State? Has he used the increased resources at his disposal to enhance their quality of life?”

The Presidency emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to fostering stronger collaborations with state governments and stakeholders to improve the lives of all Nigerians. It further stated that any attempts to undermine the federal government’s reform agenda are “self-serving” and “undemocratic.”

Regarding the ongoing tax reforms before the National Assembly, the Presidency reiterated the President’s position that any grievances should be addressed through proper legislative processes, not through efforts to derail the reforms.

“Attempts to halt or disrupt this process are undemocratic and self-serving. The President believes in strengthening state institutions and encourages constructive dialogue through the appropriate channels,” the statement added.

The Presidency urged Governor Mohammed to redirect his focus toward governance, emphasizing that while President Tinubu has a duty to all Nigerians, the governor has an even greater responsibility to the people of his state. It concluded that constant political posturing will not absolve him of his obligations.

The Presidency also assured Nigerians that President Tinubu remains committed to improving the country’s economic prospects and fulfilling his mandate. Citizens, it stated, will continue to experience the positive outcomes of his administration’s reforms in the coming weeks and months.
