Two Die After Slipping into Diesel Tank in Lagos

Two individuals have tragically died after slipping into a diesel reservoir in the Ikosi, Oregun area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred when one of the men accidentally fell into the diesel tank while working. In an attempt to rescue him, the second man also slipped into the reservoir.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, on Saturday. According to the statement, the LASEMA team responded swiftly after receiving distress calls through the 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines at 10:37 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene at 10:47 a.m., the LASEMA Tiger Response Team discovered that the two men had fallen into the diesel reservoir. Preliminary investigations revealed that the first man fell accidentally, and the second man, in trying to help, also fell in.

Despite the team’s efforts to resuscitate the victims and transport them to the hospital, both men succumbed to their injuries and were later confirmed dead.

Oke-Osanyintolu added that emergency responders have assessed the site to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“Unfortunately, despite all medical efforts, both victims passed away,” he said in the final update on the incident.
