Ekiti Ends Work-from-home Policy, Orders Workers To Resume Monday
The Ekiti State Government has officially ended its work-from-home policy for some categories of civil servants, instructing the affected workers to return to full duties on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The policy, which was introduced by Governor Biodun Oyebanji in September 2024, was initially designed to alleviate the impact of economic hardship and the fuel subsidy removal on the state’s workforce. Under the arrangement, civil servants on salary levels 01-07 worked from home three days a week, while those on levels 08-12 worked from home two days a week, and officers on levels 13-17 worked from home once a week.
However, the policy did not apply to essential workers such as teachers, core health workers, and security personnel.
A letter issued from the Office of Establishment and Service Matters to all accounting officers revealed that the cancellation of the work-from-home policy was due to the implementation of the new minimum wage for workers, as well as government investments in worker welfare and their anticipated positive impact on the economy.
The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary in the office, Mrs. Funke Ajibola, directed the affected workers to resume full-time duties starting Monday, four months after the policy was first enacted.
