Troops Destroy Terrorist Kingpin Turji’s Stronghold, Kill Scores in Zamfara
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in a combined air and ground operation, have successfully destroyed the stronghold of terrorist kingpin Kachallah Bello Turji and killed scores of his followers in Zamfara State.
A statement by the spokesperson for the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), AVM Olusola Akinboyewa, revealed that the operation, carried out on January 10, 2025, delivered a crushing blow to banditry in the region.
The coordinated airstrikes and ground assaults at Fakai Hills led to the decimation of a significant number of bandits, with many others suffering severe injuries. AVM Akinboyewa emphasized that the operation demonstrated the determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to restore peace and security to the region.
According to intelligence reports, bandits loyal to the notorious leader, Bello Turji, suffered heavy casualties. “Scores of bandits were neutralised, while many others, including top commanders, sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Akinboyewa stated.
Despite the successful operation, Turji’s whereabouts remain unknown, putting additional pressure on his deteriorating network. The operation was carefully planned, with real-time coordination using Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms to ensure precise target identification.
The identified targets were engaged with rockets and cannons in multiple passes, delivering devastating blows. Bandits, attempting to flee eastward from the hill, were further targeted and neutralised during the engagement.
The operation has been met with widespread celebrations from locals in Zamfara State, who expressed relief and gratitude for the significant impact on the security situation. Several kidnapped victims were also freed, bringing hope to affected families.
AVM Akinboyewa reiterated the NAF’s commitment to working alongside ground forces to eradicate criminal activities and secure the nation, ensuring peace and prosperity for all.
