Alaafin Begins 21-Day Traditional Rites

The new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, who was officially presented with the staff and certificate of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday, has commenced the mandatory 21-day traditional rites that mark his ascension to the throne.

Following the presentation, Oba Owoade made his way to Oyo Town, where he was warmly received with great celebration by the people of Oyo, including sons and daughters of the land.

As per tradition, the monarch will undergo these rites, which are an essential part of his journey to assume the throne of his ancestors.

In observance of the tradition, all markets, including the renowned Akesan Market, were closed. The streets of Oyo Town were lined with residents, all eager to witness the momentous occasion and show their support for the new king.

The Iyaloja of Oyo, Alhaja Adijat Bakare, explained that the suspension of trading activities was in line with the customs and traditions of the Oyo people, ensuring that the coronation rites are conducted with the highest respect and reverence.
