JUST-IN: Court Sacks Pro-Wike Rivers PDP Chairman, Nullifies Party’s Congresses

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has nullified the election of Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. The court, presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo, also annulled the party’s ward, local government, and state congresses held in July 2024.

This ruling comes just weeks after a similar decision by another court nullified the congresses of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, which resulted in the election of Chief Tony Okocha as the State Chairman.

The court’s decision stemmed from a legal dispute concerning the legitimacy of the PDP congresses, which were conducted by a faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike. The court’s ruling casts doubt on the legitimacy of the congresses and the leadership that emerged from them.

This latest development marks a significant twist in the ongoing political turmoil within the state’s party factions, and it remains to be seen how the PDP will respond to the court’s judgment.
