JUST-IN: Makinde Presents Staff and Certificate of Office to New Alaafin
On Monday, January 13, 2025, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, officially presented the staff of office and certificate of office to Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, marking his formal ascension as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
The brief but significant ceremony took place at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan. During the presentation, Governor Makinde emphasized the vital role of the Alaafin of Oyo, not only as a traditional ruler but also as a custodian of the rich history and culture of the Oyo kingdom.
The governor expressed confidence that Oba Owoade would lead with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to uniting the people of Oyo.
In response, the new Alaafin expressed his gratitude to the people of Oyo for their support and vowed to focus on the development of the kingdom and the welfare of its citizens.
Oba Owoade succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who reigned for 51 years before his passing. The Oyo State government had officially announced Oba Owoade’s appointment as the new Alaafin of Oyo on Friday.
