Oyo Scholars Hail Emergence of Oba Owoade as the New Alaafin of Oyo

The Oyo Scholars Congress (OSC) has congratulated Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade on his ascension to the throne as the new Alaafin of Oyo, marking a significant moment in the history of the royal family and the Oyo Kingdom.

In a statement signed by the Congress’ convenors, Professors Seun Kolade and Segun Oguntunji, the group described Owoade’s appointment as a historic event that fills Oyo sons and daughters worldwide with immense pride and joy. “The announcement of your ascension to the revered Alaafin’s throne brings hope and excitement for a new chapter of leadership, deeply rooted in our shared Yoruba heritage,” the statement read.

The group emphasized the profound responsibility that comes with the Alaafin’s throne, urging the new monarch to preserve the age-old values and wisdom of the Yoruba people, while also leading with a forward-thinking vision for the future. “Your ascension to the throne signifies the dawn of a new era of promise, where the Alaafin will continue to be a symbol of strength, unity, and collective progress,” they noted.

The Oyo Scholars Congress further stressed the importance of the throne as a rallying point for the Yoruba people, representing both the rich history of the people and the boundless potential for modern-day collaboration and growth. “This moment calls on all Yoruba people to unite and celebrate the richness of our shared heritage. In an age when collaboration and unity are paramount, we must continue to honor our history while fostering mutual respect for the advancement of all our communities,” the statement continued.

The OSC also pledged its continued support for the new Alaafin’s reign, expressing its commitment to contributing to initiatives that align with the vision of a thriving, unified, and progressive Oyo State. “As a global network of scholars from the Oyo Federal Constituency, which includes Atiba, Afijio, Oyo East, and Oyo West local governments, we remain steadfast in our support of initiatives that further the goals of your reign.”

The Congress concluded by offering prayers for Oba Owoade, wishing him divine wisdom, strength, and peace throughout his reign. “Kabiyesi, may your reign be filled with enduring blessings for Oyo and beyond. Ki ade o pe l’ori, ki bata pe l’ese – may your crown last forever and your footsteps bring prosperity,” the statement said.
