Arewa Youths Cautions Asari Dokubo Over Attacks On Wike
By Innocent Odoh, Abuja
The Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence has condemned Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, over what they described as his “unwarranted and uncultured” attacks on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
At a press conference, the group, led by its National President, Bature Haruna, and FCT Chapter Coordinator, Hon. Ambassador Mark Okpanachi Ogah, expressed concern over Dokubo’s “malicious and baseless threats,” which they believe are rooted in self-serving motives and an attempt to gain undue relevance.
The group emphasized that Dokubo’s recent verbal assault against Wike is “disrespectful” and an attempt to undermine the achievements and governance of a “respected statesman.” According to the youth organization, Wike has demonstrated “uncommon character and competence in governance,” and his leadership should be respected rather than undermined.
The Arewa youths also pointed out that Asari Dokubo, who is not a state actor, lacks jurisdiction to interfere in matters beyond his scope, particularly those related to Rivers State. They argued that his comments reflect a lack of legitimate authority and should not be given weight.
The group further noted that Asari Dokubo has a history of opposition to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s candidacy in the last Rivers State governorship election, despite Wike’s selfless support for Fubara’s success. They accused Dokubo, along with other political opportunists, of trying to discredit Wike’s contributions to Rivers and Nigeria.
Despite Dokubo’s attacks, the group stressed that Wike remains unfazed and continues to focus on implementing transformative policies and projects in the FCT, earning nationwide respect. They also affirmed their belief in Wike’s leadership, which has garnered the recognition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who referred to him as “My best Minister.”
The Arewa Youths called on security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force, to caution Dokubo against further threats or insults toward government officials, highlighting that no individual is above the law in Nigeria.
The group also voiced their full support for Wike’s efforts in transforming the FCT and contributing to national development, urging Nigerians to stand in support of leaders who prioritize national unity and progress over personal interests.
Finally, the group called for an end to political clout-chasing tactics, saying they would not allow such distractions to deter the Minister from his critical responsibilities.
