Gov Adeleke Imposes Curfew Over Renewed Ifon-Ilobu Crisis

In response to the latest outbreak of communal violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a curfew on the two towns to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

The State’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, made the announcement on Thursday, January 16, 2025, through a press statement issued in Osogbo, the state capital.

The curfew, which will be enforced from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM daily, is intended to maintain peace and prevent further lawlessness in the affected areas. The governor’s decision comes after fresh clashes erupted between the two communities.

The statement from the government outlined several measures taken to address the situation, including the deployment of a contingent of security personnel from the Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps to the warring communities to maintain order.

In addition, Governor Adeleke has mandated the formation of a broad-based Committee of Stakeholders, comprising representatives from the affected communities, the State Council of Obas, security agencies, and other relevant bodies. This committee is tasked with facilitating dialogue and finding a permanent solution to the communal tensions.

The statement further warned that anyone found instigating or engaging in violence during the period of curfew would face severe legal consequences, including prosecution in accordance with Nigerian law.

Governor Adeleke called on all stakeholders in the region to cooperate with the state government in ensuring lasting peace in the area.
