Police Arrest Six Over Alleged Mobile Phone Thefts in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has apprehended six individuals in connection with a string of mobile phone thefts across the Kano Metropolis. The arrests were made between January 11 and 15, 2025, and resulted in the recovery of two tricycles and 15 stolen mobile phones.

According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the operation was carried out by officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Acting on reliable intelligence, the squad raided several known criminal hideouts and high-risk areas within the metropolis.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir. All six individuals have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes.

“These suspects, all residing in different parts of Kano Metropolis, admitted to targeting passengers by posing as tricycle riders and stealing mobile phones,” the statement read.

Among the items recovered were two tricycles, registered under KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ, along with 15 mobile phones believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting commuters.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and also thanked the public for their cooperation, which he credited as vital to the success of the operation.

He reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Police to combat all forms of criminal activities, including mobile phone theft, armed robbery, and street violence.
