Tinubu Mourns Ex-Lagos Head Of Service Ajose
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deepest condolences to the Lagos State Government, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the people of Badagry over the death of Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, a distinguished elder statesman and former Head of Service. Chief Ajose passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 78.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu mourned the loss, highlighting Ajose’s significant contributions as a committed APC leader in Badagry and as a unifying force in Lagos State. The President particularly extended his sympathy to the people of Badagry, acknowledging their loss of a revered leader.
Tinubu fondly recalled his personal relationship with Ajose during his tenure as governor, praising the late statesman’s commitment to civil service reform. He said, “He was an astute administrator and dogged civil servant. When I appointed him the Head of Service, he became a rallying point. He had a considerable influence on the workers and was pivotal in getting the civil service behind our policies and initiatives.”
Even after his tenure as Head of Service, President Tinubu said he remained close to Ajose due to his leadership qualities and his important role as a partner in development.
The President also acknowledged Ajose’s lasting impact on Lagos State, particularly in his contributions to the development of Badagry Constituency. Tinubu emphasized that Ajose’s pivotal role in governance was reflected in his position as the sole representative from Badagry in the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council.
While offering his condolences to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the people of Lagos State, President Tinubu prayed for strength for the Ajose family and eternal rest for Pa Ajose’s soul.
Chief Ajose, born on February 10, 1946, in Badagry, had an impressive educational background, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Science from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1973, and a Master of Arts in Social Science from Governors State University in 1974. He joined the Lagos State Civil Service in 1979 and rose to become the Head of Service in 2004, serving under then-Governor Tinubu.
Ajose’s legacy as an influential figure in both the civil service and political spheres of Lagos State will be remembered by many.
