FCT Minister Wike to Begin Commissioning of 6 Road Projects on Monday

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will commence the commissioning of six major road projects across the FCT on Monday, January 20, 2025, according to a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka.

The commissioning of these projects will take place in the six Area Councils of the FCT, marking a significant milestone in improving the infrastructure and accessibility within the capital.

Commissioning Schedule

  • Monday, January 20: The commissioning will kick off with the newly constructed 5km Naharati-River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road in the Abaji Area Council, which includes a three-span river bridge.
  • Tuesday, January 21: 11km Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road in Kwali Area Council will be commissioned.
  • Wednesday, January 22: The 9km Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road within the Gwagwalada Area Council will be commissioned.
  • Thursday, January 23: The commissioning will move to Kuje Area Council for the Asphalt Carriageway from Garage Junction to Local Education Authority Secretariat.
  • Friday, January 24: The Gaba-Tokulo Road in Bwari Area Council, featuring a two-span river bridge, will be commissioned.
  • Wednesday, January 29: The Access Road to Saburi I and II communities in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, from ONEX to Old Keffi Road near Dei-Dei International Market, will be commissioned.

Ongoing Projects

In addition to the upcoming road inaugurations, Olayinka highlighted several ongoing projects aimed at further enhancing road networks in the FCT. These include:

  • Kabusa-Takushara Access Road
  • Kabusa-Ketti Access Road
  • Access road to the new EFCC Academy site in Giri District
  • 15km Road from A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pia in Kwali Area Council

Other key ongoing projects are:

  • Reconstruction of the 25km Kwaita/Yebu Road in Kwali Area Council
  • Rehabilitation of the Old Ushafa-LUD Road and the Dutse-Lower Usuma Dam Dual Carriage in Bwari Area Council
  • 11km Aguma Palace – Radio Nigeria – New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council
  • Dakibiyu District Dual Carriage Road
  • 11km Kuje Road
  • 4km Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Road) from Life Camp to Ring Road III
  • Arterial road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road II to Ring Road III with two interchanges
  • 11.3km Access Road to the Judges Quarters in Katampe from Arterial Road N11 (Ahmadu Bello Way in Mabushi)

Looking Ahead

The FCT Minister’s spokesperson expressed confidence that these projects, both completed and ongoing, would significantly improve connectivity within the FCT and enhance the overall living conditions for residents. The administration has committed to meeting the completion deadlines for all ongoing projects to ensure continued progress and development in the territory.

Wike’s administration is focused on making the FCT more accessible, with road construction projects seen as crucial to achieving urban mobility and improving the quality of life for citizens in the capital.
