VP Shettima Off to Davos for 2025 World Economic Forum Meeting

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Davos, Switzerland, where he will represent Nigeria at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting. The event, scheduled for later this week, will bring together world leaders, top business executives, and key representatives of development partners to discuss the state of the global economy and explore ways to improve it.

According to a statement from his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s participation in the forum will include a range of high-profile events and bilateral meetings with other world leaders. The Vice President will also attend various workshops and forums aimed at addressing the pressing economic issues facing both developing and developed nations.

Key Events and Agendas in Davos

Among the key events Shettima will attend is a workshop on “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets”, organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the World Economic Forum. This session is focused on mobilizing capital to enhance investment in Africa’s frontier markets, aiming to create solutions that foster a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Africa.

A major highlight of the session will be the announcement of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa, a partnership between the AfDB and other stakeholders to accelerate investments in key areas across Africa. The goal is to scale projects that address resilience, infrastructure, and economic development.

Additionally, Vice President Shettima will attend a dinner for heads of state, government, and international organizations in Kurpark Village, where the 2025 Crystal Awardees will also be honored. This prestigious event will bring together the world’s most influential leaders and key partners in the international business community.

Digital Trade and Growth in Africa

Shettima is also set to co-chair a forum on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa”, a discussion aimed at promoting digital trade and exploring the private sector’s role in advancing the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol, which was adopted by the African Union (AU) heads of state in January 2024. The forum will provide a dynamic platform for dialogue on digital trade’s role in accelerating economic growth across Africa, leveraging the continent’s potential to become a global digital economy leader.

Global Risks and Future Outlook

Another major event the Vice President will attend is the Stakeholder Dialogue on “Global Risks 2025”, which will focus on the volatile global landscape, marked by escalating geopolitical, technological, and environmental challenges. The Global Risks Report for 2025 will highlight the interconnected risks that affect global stability and development, and the session will offer a platform for experts and policymakers to discuss potential solutions.

Accompanying Delegates

VP Shettima will be accompanied by a delegation of key government officials, including the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi. The delegation’s participation in the forum underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and attracting investment to the country.

Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after the completion of his engagements at the World Economic Forum, with the hope that his participation will further strengthen Nigeria’s economic standing on the global stage and attract meaningful partnerships for the country’s growth and development.

The 2025 WEF meeting promises to be a key event for the global economy, and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s presence underscores Nigeria’s role in shaping international economic and development discussions.
