LAUTECH Students Protest Shortage Of Lecturers

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Iseyin Campus in Oyo State, staged a protest on Monday, raising concerns about the ongoing shortage of lecturers and increased financial burdens since their return from the last holiday.

The protesting students voiced their frustrations over the absence of lecturers who are supposed to commute to the Iseyin Campus from the main campus in Ogbomoso, which has affected their academic activities. Additionally, students have been grappling with high transportation costs and accommodation expenses, which have become unaffordable for many since the start of the new academic session.

A student, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that students in the Agriculture Department were also protesting over a lack of essential facilities at their farms and raising concerns about issues such as transportation, housing, and other logistical challenges.

“I was just informed that Agriculture department students were currently protesting for some facilities to be made available for use at their farms and some other peculiar requests like transportation costs, housing and others,” the student said.

The protestors are calling on the Education Committee to engage with the university management to resolve these issues promptly. They also urged the Oyo State government to intervene and find lasting solutions to these grievances, ensuring that the new academic session is not disrupted.

“I appeal on the education committee to kindly liaise with the school management for prompt resolution. I also call on the state government to immediately find solutions to their grievances so that the new academic session would not be disturbed,” the anonymous student added.

The protests highlight growing concerns among students over their educational experience amid logistical and financial challenges, with many calling for swift intervention to restore normalcy.
