By Jonathan Nda-Isaiah
President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and leaders of Ogoni land from four local government areas in Rivers State at the Presidential Villa.
Governor Fubara, who arrived with Senator Lee Maeba on Tuesday afternoon, is leading a delegation that includes key political figures such as Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedom Mitee, Senators Bennett Birabi, Barry Mpigi, and Prof. B. Fakae, among others.
Also present at the meeting are members of President Tinubu’s cabinet, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas, and Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
The specific agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed yet, but it is widely believed to be centered on pressing issues related to Ogoni land, particularly the clean-up of Ogoni and the resumption of oil exploration in the area. The Federal Government has expressed growing concerns over the prolonged stoppage of oil exploration in Rivers State, particularly in Ogoniland, due to environmental and community issues.
More details are expected to follow later.
