NDLEA Arrests 2, Seizes Drugs In Violent Kano Raid
The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully arrested two suspects and seized significant quantities of illicit drugs during a high-risk operation in the Bebeji local government area of the state.
The raid, which took place on January 20, 2025, at Rahama Roundabout, led to the detention of Musa Usman (25) and Buhari Ya’u Bashir (24), both of whom were found in possession of illicit substances. According to Sadiq Maigatari, the NDLEA Public Relations Officer for the Kano Command, the seized items included 1.1 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 8 grams of diazepam (equivalent to 38 tablets), and 59 grams of Exol (165 tablets).
The operation took a violent turn when Musa Usman, in an attempt to evade arrest, wielded a dagger and attacked one of the NDLEA officers. This act resulted in the officer sustaining a stab wound during the confrontation. However, the situation was eventually brought under control, and both suspects were taken into custody.
Abubakar Ahmad, the State Commander of NDLEA in Kano, strongly condemned the actions of the suspects and reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to the safety of its personnel and the eradication of drug trafficking within the state. He confirmed that the two suspects are currently in detention and will face legal action for drug-related offenses and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to combat the rising wave of drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria, particularly in states like Kano, which have been grappling with significant challenges in controlling the spread of illicit drugs.
