NAF Hits Terrorists’ Logistics Base, Kills Scores in Niger
The Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY) has successfully neutralized several terrorists and destroyed their logistics base at Alawa, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) spokesman, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, the airstrike was conducted on January 21, 2025, following credible intelligence reports and confirmatory aerial surveillance that showed an influx of armed terrorists into the forested area.
The terrorist group, identified as responsible for numerous acts of violence, was linked to two Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks that took place on December 19, 2024, in Bassa, also in Shiroro LGA, which resulted in the loss of several innocent lives.
In response to these attacks and in a bid to cripple the terrorist network, the Nigerian Air Force launched a three-day sustained air operation, codenamed KONAN DAJI. The operation was specifically designed to degrade the terrorists’ operational capabilities and render the forest an inhospitable environment for their activities.
The NAF dispatched a formation of fighter aircraft to conduct air interdiction missions in the region. Upon arrival, the aircraft swiftly engaged the identified terrorist targets with precision strikes, resulting in the neutralization of numerous armed fighters and the destruction of the group’s logistics base. Multiple secondary explosions confirmed the successful execution of the strike.
The Nigerian Air Force emphasized that the operation was conducted in close coordination with ground forces, underscoring its commitment to maintaining operational dominance and securing the region from terrorism. AVM Akinboyewa assured the public that the NAF would continue its relentless efforts to eliminate all criminal elements from the Alawa Forest and surrounding areas, working towards lasting peace and security for the communities in Niger State and beyond.
This operation is a part of the ongoing effort by the Nigerian military to combat terrorism and insurgency in the country, particularly in areas that have been plagued by criminal activities.
