Oyetola’s Ex-Aide Demands Apology From Social Media Influencer Mewolaka Over Alleged Defamation

A former aide to Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Blue Economy, Mr. Taiwo Olaore, has demanded a public apology and retraction from popular social media marriage counselor, Mrs. Omolola Fasakin, also known as Mewolaka, over alleged defamatory remarks made against him.

In a letter dated January 23, 2024, written on his behalf by his lawyer, P.O. Oyetayo, Olaore claimed that Mewolaka defamed him on January 21, 2025, by calling him a “miserable personality” and a “beggar without means of livelihood.” He further stated that her words were “not befitting for societal atmosphere,” and that Mewolaka failed to provide any concrete evidence to substantiate these defamatory statements posted on her Facebook page.

Olaore explained that the incident occurred after he made a polite comment on Mewolaka’s Facebook post, which referred to an allegation made by one of his political party members, Honourable Jamiu Babatunde Olawunmi. Olaore clarified that he had no prior interaction with Mewolaka before the comment.

According to Olaore’s account, Mewolaka responded by defaming him, writing: “Everybody is calling me names, you Olaore Taiwo dare join them. Onibaara, alatenuje omode. Go to court, ofo lo ma se. If one of your elder sisters had changed beds like I did, you wouldn’t have begged me for the 20k I sent you on that faithful day when hunger wanted to ‘kpai’ the lady you marry (and your kids) without any tangible job.”

Olaore further accused Mewolaka of personally calling his contact line after the allegations, threatening him with “demonically motivated touts and thugs” who allegedly threatened to take his life and that of his family members. He described these as false claims intended to defame his character and tarnish his reputation.

In light of this, Olaore demanded that Mewolaka publicly apologize and retract the defamatory statements within 24 hours, issuing the retraction on the same Facebook page where the original defamatory post was made. He warned that failure to comply would result in serious legal consequences.

In response, Mewolaka reportedly removed the controversial post from her page and issued a brief apology, writing: “I express a sincere apology to my genuine friends on this platform, though all posts deleted as instructed by my mentors, but I considered it essential to provide bullies with a taste of their own behavior.” She clarified that the brief diversion was necessary, while expressing satisfaction with the apology.

Interestingly, LEADERSHIP could not locate the original post on Mewolaka’s social media page as it had been deleted, leaving the issue unresolved. The situation has stirred discussions on social media about the boundaries between public figures, accountability, and the impact of online defamation.
