Oyetola’s Ex-Aide Demands Apology From Social Media Influencer Mewolaka Over Alleged Defamation
A former aide to Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Blue Economy, Mr. Taiwo Olaore, has demanded a public apology and retraction from popular social media marriage counselor Mrs. Omolola Fasakin, widely known as Mewolaka, over an alleged defamatory statement.
In a letter dated January 23, 2024, written on his behalf by his lawyer, P.O. Oyetayo, Olaore accused Mewolaka of defamation after the influencer allegedly referred to him as a “miserable personality” and a “beggar without means of livelihood” on her Facebook page.
According to the letter, the defamation occurred on January 21, 2025, when Mewolaka made the statement following a comment Olaore made on her Facebook post. Olaore explained that he had simply responded to a comment made by one of his political party members, Hon. Jamiu Babatunde Olawunmi, a former special adviser on education during Oyetola’s tenure as governor of Osun State.
Olaore clarified that he had no prior relationship or conflict with Mewolaka before the incident. However, after he made his submission about a third-party allegation concerning Olawunmi, Mewolaka allegedly attacked his character on social media, calling him a beggar and accusing him of having no job.
The letter further quoted Mewolaka’s Facebook statement: “Everybody is calling me names, you Olaore Taiwo dare join them. Onibaara, alatenuje omode. Go to court, ofo lo ma se. If one of your elder sisters had changed beds like I did, you wouldn’t have begged me for the 20k I sent you on that faithful day when hunger wanted to ‘kpai’ the lady you marry (and your kids) without any tangible job.”
Olaore also accused Mewolaka of personally contacting him after the post was made, threatening him with “demonically motivated touts and thugs” who allegedly threatened his life and that of his family. Olaore described these claims as false, stating that they were an attempt to defame his character and damage his reputation.
As a result, Olaore demanded that Mewolaka publicly apologize and retract her statements within 24 hours. The apology, according to the letter, should be made on the same social media platform where the defamatory post was originally made, or else legal action would follow.
In a follow-up post after removing the contentious statement, Mewolaka apologized, writing: “I express a sincere apology to my genuine friends on this platform. Though all posts have been deleted as instructed by my mentors, I considered it essential to provide bullies with a taste of their own behavior.”
The post from Mewolaka, which seemed to address the situation, was followed by an expression of satisfaction over the apology, though the initial defamatory statement has since been deleted from her social media profile.
LEADERSHIP was unable to retrieve the original post, as it has since been removed from Mewolaka’s page.
