ACF Mourns Passage of Ex-BOT Chairman Lt-Gen Useni

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the apex northern sociocultural group, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of its former Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman, Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni. The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, announced the passing of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday night, after a protracted illness. He was 82 years old.

In a statement of condolence issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF described Lt.-Gen. Useni as an exemplary leader—a soldier, officer, and gentleman—who dedicated his life to service as a military officer, administrator, and nationalist.

The Forum recalled the late General’s many contributions to Nigeria, including his roles as Minister of Transport and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, as well as his distinguished tenure as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was also recognized as a key community leader in his home state of Plateau, and held several pivotal command positions in the Nigerian military.

“Lt.-Gen. Useni was a progressive and inclusive leader during his tenure as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (2009–2014) of ACF. His leadership was defined by commitment to national unity and the advancement of the north. His contributions to Nigeria, both in his military career and his civic engagements, were profound,” the statement read.

ACF further stated that Lt.-Gen. Useni’s legacy as a war hero, military administrator, and statesman would be remembered as one of the cornerstones in the building of modern Nigeria.

The Forum conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the Useni family, his friends, colleagues in the military, and the people of Plateau State, acknowledging his significant role in shaping the country’s history.

As the nation waits for the announcement of funeral arrangements by the family, ACF reaffirmed that Lt.-Gen. Useni would be dearly missed for his dedication to Nigeria’s development.
