FEC Mourns Ex-FCT Minister Lt.-Gen. Useni
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lieutenant General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, who died on Thursday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
Lt. Gen. Useni, a distinguished military officer, held the position of Minister of Federal Capital Territory and also served as Minister of Transport during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. His contributions to the development of the FCT were significant, particularly during the critical early stages of the city’s development and master planning.
On behalf of FEC, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family and the people of Plateau State, where the late General hailed from. In a statement released on Friday by Segun Imohiosen, the director of media in the Office of SGF, Akume praised Lt. Gen. Useni’s legacy of selfless service to the nation and his unwavering commitment to peace and unity.
“Gen. Useni was one of the most outstanding Army Generals whose contributions to national peace and unity will be remembered for generations,” Akume said. “His exemplary track record serves as an inspiration, especially to younger military officers.”
Senator Akume also highlighted Lt. Gen. Useni’s transition into politics, where he continued to serve the nation as a Senator, further cementing his legacy of leadership and dedication to the country.
In his message, Akume extended condolences to the immediate family of the late General and prayed for the eternal repose of his soul. He also extended sympathies to the government and people of Plateau State, sharing in their grief at the loss of a revered leader.
