Sokoto Government Warns Residents to Be Cautious of Fleeing Bandits Amid Military Onslaught

The Sokoto State government has issued a public alert urging residents to be cautious of fleeing bandits in the wake of a sustained military offensive against armed groups in the eastern parts of the state.

Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, confirmed that the joint military operations sponsored by the state government have been successful in disbanding bandit and terrorist groups, leaving them disoriented and on the run.

“Many terrorist hideouts have been located and destroyed, with several bandits neutralized in the process. Hundreds of kidnap victims have also been rescued as part of the ongoing operations,” Col. Usman said. He further explained that, under increasing pressure from security forces, some bandits are fleeing to other regions with their injured members.

To ensure public safety, the state government is raising awareness about the potential threat posed by these fleeing bandits. “We advise residents to remain vigilant as some bandits may disguise themselves or seek refuge in villages or even attempt to receive treatment at local clinics,” he added.

Col. Usman emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to security agencies. “Your cooperation is vital in securing our state and supporting Governor Aliyu’s 9-point agenda for a safer and more economically viable Sokoto,” he concluded.
