Alleged Defamation: Afe Babalola Pardons Farotimi After Ooni, Ewi Of Ado’s Plea

Legal icon Aare Afe Babalola has decided to pardon and discontinue the legal action he had initiated against human rights lawyer, Mr. Dele Farotimi.

Farotimi had been standing trial for allegedly defaming Aare Babalola in his book titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.” In the book, Farotimi accused Babalola of corrupting the judiciary and influencing the Supreme Court to procure a fraudulent judgment for his clients.

The decision to forgive Farotimi and drop the charges came after a closed-door meeting between Aare Babalola, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other senior Ekiti State traditional rulers on Sunday evening. During the meeting, the monarchs, led by the Ooni, pleaded with Babalola on behalf of Farotimi.

More details are expected to follow.
