Court Bars Police From Arresting Kano Anti-graft Agency’s Boss
A Kano State High Court, led by Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji, has issued an interim order preventing the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force from arresting, inviting, or harassing Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The court ruling came in response to a suit filed by the Kano State Attorney General, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and its Chairman, Rimingado, as plaintiffs. The defendants in the case include the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone One, Kano State Commissioner of Police, ASP Ahmed Bello, and Bala Muhammad Inuwa.
The court’s decision provides temporary relief to Rimingado amidst growing tensions over his recent activities. LEADERSHIP reported that Muhuyi was arrested on Friday by the police and questioned regarding allegations of misconduct stemming from a complaint by the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Bala Inuwa Mohammed. After several hours of questioning, Rimingado was released on bail.
This legal action has sparked discussions over the ongoing investigation and the political dynamics involving the Kano anti-corruption body.
