I Now Survive On Rent From My Kaduna House, Says Ex-President Buhari

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has shared that he currently depends on rental income from one of his houses in Kaduna to cover his daily living expenses, reiterating that he did not amass wealth during his time in office.

Buhari made this revelation during an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Government House, in Katsina over the weekend.

Reflecting on his tenure, the former president noted that Nigeria is an incredibly challenging country to govern, explaining that many citizens fail to understand the intricacies and complexities of leadership until they are in the position of authority. “Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware. You will not understand the complexities of leadership and the country itself until you find yourself in the administrative position of the country,” he said.

Buhari also commented on his health and well-being since stepping down from office, stating that he was in better shape now than during his presidency. “I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president of the country. Anybody that sees me now acknowledges that I look better than before,” he remarked.

In further detail, Buhari disclosed that, despite serving two terms as president, he owned only three houses: one in his hometown of Daura and two in Kaduna. He revealed that he rents out one of the houses in Kaduna to help with his living expenses. “After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” he said.

The former president’s remarks come amidst discussions about wealth and leadership, offering insight into his modest lifestyle following his time in office.
