Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers for Killing Ex-Gombe Perm Sec
The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping and murder of Alhaji Atiku Muazu, a former permanent secretary from Gombe State. The suspects are accused of kidnapping Muazu, demanding a ransom of N20 million, and killing him after receiving N2 million.
Commissioner of Police in Kano, CP Salman Dogo, shared the details of the arrests during a press briefing on Monday, explaining that Muazu, aged 64, was kidnapped by the suspects, who later killed him despite receiving a partial ransom. The suspects arrested include 33-year-old Abubakar Hassan, also known as “Captain,” from Ringim, Jigawa State, who is reportedly the mastermind behind the kidnapping. Also arrested were Adamu Abubakar Adam, 29, from Sharada Quarters, who is said to have received the ransom, and 34-year-old Alhaji Hamisu, also known as “Bakin Bross.”
According to CP Dogo, the investigation revealed that the primary suspect, Hassan, lured Muazu under the pretext of taking him to Kazaure Local Government to collect his car from a mechanic. Instead, Hassan, along with four accomplices, held the victim hostage in Ringim and killed him after receiving N2 million as part of the ransom.
During the investigation, a toy gun with six rubber bullets was recovered from the principal suspect. The suspects are currently being held at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Anti-Kidnapping Unit. They will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
In a separate case, CP Dogo also announced that the police have intensified efforts to apprehend armed men who invaded the home of Alhaji Awwalu in Sabuwar Unguwar Garo, Kabo Local Government Area, Kano. During the invasion, Awwalu was robbed of N8 million, and his 16-year-old daughter, Zainab Aliyu, was kidnapped. The police have assured that all measures are in place to capture the perpetrators.
