Nigerian Cybersecurity Expert Nominated for UK’s Cybersecurity Personality of the Year Award
Dr. Fene Osakwe, a Nigerian-born cybersecurity expert, has made history as the first African ever to be nominated for the prestigious Cybersecurity Personality of the Year Award in the United Kingdom.
This significant recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to the cybersecurity field and underscores the growing influence of Nigerian professionals in the global tech industry.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) shared the news of his nomination, with its Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, offering heartfelt congratulations to Osakwe. She commended his achievements, calling the nomination a testament to his hard work and dedication.
“We are thrilled to see Dr. Fene Osakwe’s dedication and achievements recognised in this way,” Dabiri-Erewa said in a statement, which was signed by NiDCOM spokesman Abdur-Rahman Balogun and shared on NIDCOM’s X handle (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. “His success is a shining example of the incredible talent and expertise that Nigerians have to offer, and we eagerly anticipate celebrating his continued success.”
Dabiri-Erewa also emphasized the global importance of Osakwe’s achievement, noting, “As the first African to be nominated for this award, Dr. Osakwe’s recognition serves as an inspiration to Nigerians and Africans everywhere.”
Osakwe, a multi-award-winning cybersecurity professional, career mentor, and best-selling author, is the only African nominee in the category. He is competing against leaders from 11 other countries for the honor.
The Cybersecurity Personality of the Year Award, established in 2014, celebrates individuals, teams, and organizations making remarkable contributions to the global cybersecurity sector. The awards ceremony, set to take place in March, will be attended by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, further highlighting the significance of this prestigious recognition.
