UBEC To Partner NMEC On Mass Literacy
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, has expressed UBEC’s readiness to collaborate with the National Commission on Mass Literacy, Adult, and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) in the drive to promote mass literacy across Nigeria.
This commitment was revealed during a courtesy visit by the Executive Secretary of NMEC, Professor Akpama Ibor, to UBEC’s headquarters in Abuja.
The discussions between the two agencies centered on various partnership opportunities, including joint programmes, resource sharing, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving basic education in the country. Aisha Garba highlighted the potential for both organizations to combine their strengths and adopt a more comprehensive approach to reducing illiteracy.
One of the key points of discussion was the introduction of innovative strategies to combat illiteracy, including community-based learning centers, mobile education units, and digital literacy programs aimed at reaching underserved populations.
Professor Ibor underscored the importance of non-formal education in offering flexible learning opportunities for adults and out-of-school youths, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He also emphasized the need for continuous education programmes that support lifelong learning.
Aisha Garba expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing that it marks a significant step toward eradicating illiteracy and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria through enhanced educational initiatives.
