JUST-IN: APC Expels Aregbesola Over Alleged Anti-party Activities

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The expulsion marks the culmination of a long-standing conflict between Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressive (TOP) caucus, and the APC leadership in the state. This follows a meeting held by Aregbesola and his loyalists in Ilesa on Sunday, where the caucus announced their decision to leave the APC due to the party’s declining popularity in Osun.

The decision was formalized in a letter signed by the APC state chairman, Hon. Tajudeen Lawal, and the secretary, Olabisi Kamoru, which accused Aregbesola of breaching Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which governs disciplinary actions for party members. The letter cited clear evidence of Aregbesola’s actions undermining the unity and integrity of the party, leading to the approval of his immediate expulsion.

The letter reads: “At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee. Having carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations, the SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC.”

Aregbesola was formally notified that he is no longer a member of the party and is barred from representing or acting on behalf of the APC in any capacity. The letter also acknowledged his past contributions to the party, but emphasized that the decision was made following due process.

Efforts to reach Aregbesola for comment on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
