Max Air Plane Crash-lands At Kano Airport
A Max Air aircraft, registered as 5N-MBD, crash-landed on Tuesday night at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport after its front tire caught fire upon landing. The aircraft, which had flown in from Lagos, was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members at the time of the incident, which occurred around 10:19 p.m. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
One of the passengers on board, Aliyu Inuwa Mansir, who also works as a correspondent for SolaceBase, recounted the harrowing experience. “As soon as the tire burst into flames, smoke filled the cabin, and we had to exit through the emergency door,” Mansir shared. “Airport fire services were already spraying water to control the fire as we stepped out.”
Kano’s Max Air Station Manager, Malam Bello Ramalan, confirmed the incident and assured the public that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated. “I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank God for the safety of everyone on board. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority,” Ramalan stated.
He added that the Max Air staff followed the appropriate emergency protocols, including isolating the pilots and coordinating with the necessary investigation authorities. “We are collaborating with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Aircraft and Equipment Department (AED) to determine the cause of the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that a tire malfunction led to the mishap,” he explained.
Max Air has also pledged to assist passengers in retrieving their luggage as the investigation continues.
