Hisbah Arrests Couple Over ‘Un-Islamic’ Marriage in Kano

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a young couple for allegedly entering into a secret marriage without the consent or knowledge of their parents. The arrest was confirmed by Sheikh Mujahidden Aminudeen, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, who described the marriage as “un-Islamic and unacceptable.”

According to Aminudeen, the couple, whose names have been withheld, secretly wed at a recreational center after a facilitator arranged the payment of the bride price late on Wednesday night. The Hisbah Board, which is tasked with enforcing Islamic laws and moral conduct in Kano State, has vowed to continue its investigation into the incident.

Aminudeen emphasized that marriage is a sacred institution in Islam, and he condemned any actions that undermine its sanctity. He further stated that the couple would be investigated, and those who assisted in organizing the secret marriage would also face legal consequences.

The Hisbah Board commended the individuals who reported the marriage and urged the public to report similar cases to the authorities.
