Kidnapper Evans Now ‘Born Again’, Could Be Ambassador Against Crime, Says Lawyer

Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, better known as the notorious kidnap kingpin Evans, has reportedly undergone a transformation, with his lawyer, Emefo Etudo, informing a Lagos State High Court that his client has repented from his criminal activities. During a court session on Wednesday, Etudo shared that Evans has applied to the Lagos State Government through the Attorney-General’s office for a plea bargain.

Evans, who faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping, is now seeking mercy, according to his legal team. Etudo emphasized that Evans is remorseful and has shown genuine repentance. He is currently a 200-level student at the National Open University and excelled in his NECO exams while incarcerated, achieving A1 grades in all subjects. This academic achievement was made possible by a scholarship granted to him by the Federal Government.

Etudo also revealed that Evans has expressed a desire to use his story for good by helping to prevent others from following in his criminal footsteps. His lawyer proposed that Evans be allowed to visit schools across the state to speak to young people about the dangers of crime and the importance of making positive life choices.

The Lagos State Prosecutor, Y.A. Sule, confirmed Evans’ plea for a bargain and stated that the authorities would review the application. However, the focus of the day’s proceedings was on the re-arraignment of Evans, allowing the case to begin afresh.

Justice Adenike Coker adjourned the case until March 20 for a possible trial. Outside the court, Etudo continued to advocate for his client’s transformation, crediting his reformation to the efforts of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Federal Government, which supported Evans’ educational pursuits while in prison.

Evans’ dramatic shift from a feared criminal to a repentant individual hoping to spread a message of change adds an intriguing layer to his ongoing legal battle.
