Police Recover 1,519 Stolen Vehicles Using e-CMR Technology
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully traced and recovered 1,519 stolen vehicles in 2024 through the use of the Central Motor Registry Portal (e-CMR). Additionally, the Force has recovered 52 vehicles in January 2025, with ongoing investigations into many other cases of vehicle theft.
These details were shared by the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Thursday, where he discussed the significance of the e-CMR portal in the fight against vehicle theft.
“The efforts of the Force in combating crime, especially in vehicle theft, are immense,” ACP Adejobi stated. “In 2024, we successfully recovered 1,519 stolen vehicles. So far, in January 2025, 52 vehicles have been recovered, with many more under investigation for recovery. This success is largely due to public cooperation with the e-CMR portal.”
The e-CMR is a digital registry for licensed motor vehicles in Nigeria, which is legally mandated. Since its launch, over 400,000 vehicle owners have registered their vehicles on the platform, which has also reported over 1,011 stolen vehicles.
In addition, Adejobi highlighted some recent successes facilitated by the platform, including the recovery of three stolen vehicles in October 2024, with one being returned to its owner at the Police Headquarters. Recently, two stolen vehicles were recovered in Kano State through the system.
ACP Adejobi also mentioned that 5,877 vehicles with conflicting registration information are currently under investigation.
The ongoing success of the e-CMR portal reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to tackling vehicle-related crimes and its reliance on modern technology to enhance policing efforts.
