TCN Commends Benue Community for Foiling Attack on Ugwuaji-Makurdi 330kV Line
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported an attempted vandalism of its Tower T195 along the Ugwuaji-Makurdi 330kV transmission line on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Watuolo village, Utonkon, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
However, TCN acknowledged that the attack was thwarted thanks to the quick action of the local community. Around 3 a.m. that day, vigilant residents noticed suspicious activity near the tower and managed to apprehend one of the vandals, while the others managed to flee.
A statement issued by TCN’s General Manager for Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, on January 29, confirmed that the detained vandal was handed over to the police.
“TCN commends the people of Watuolo Village for their swift response and vigilance. We urge other communities hosting critical infrastructure to follow this example and take responsibility for protecting transmission installations in their areas,” Mbah said.
He further appealed for continued collaboration with security forces and host communities to combat vandalism, stressing the importance of vigilance by residents in safeguarding such vital infrastructure.
