Kwara-born Academic, Ismail Adua, Becomes Nigeria’s First Professor of International Aviation Law
Prof. Ismail Mustapha Adua, an academic from Ilorin, Kwara State, has made history by becoming Nigeria’s first Professor of International Aviation Law. Adua was among those recently promoted to the rank of Professor by the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), where he has served since 2008.
Adua began his career at UNILORIN as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Business Law, Faculty of Law, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. In his academic journey, he earned accolades, including winning the departmental prize for the best final year student in Islamic Law during the 2003/2004 academic session.
Some of his significant academic works include his 2015 publication, Aviation Security: Airline Passengers’ Roles in Combating Air-Terrorism in the 21st Century, published in the Al-Hikmah University Law Journal.
The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has congratulated Professor Adua on his groundbreaking achievement. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor praised Adua’s accomplishments, wishing him continued success and divine blessings.
“I identify with Professor Adua on this pace-setting achievement. I pray to God to grant him the sweet fruits that come with such hard work and fame,” Governor AbdulRazaq said.
The Kwara State chapter of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) also celebrated Adua’s historic promotion. In a statement signed by Chairman Dr. Taofeeq Abduraheem and Public Secretary Ridwan Musa, MULAN acknowledged Adua’s landmark achievement, praying for his continued prosperity and good health.
“While we celebrate this milestone achievement, we acknowledge the Almighty Allah’s benevolence over the life of our learned professor. May Allah grant him longevity of life garnished with good health and prosperity to enjoy the fruit of his efforts,” the statement read.
This achievement positions Prof. Adua as a trailblazer in Nigerian academia, setting a new benchmark for the study of aviation law in the country.
