Women Affairs Minister Visits AUN, Pledges Continued Support for Chibok Girls
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the ongoing rehabilitation of the Chibok girls, applauding their outstanding performance at the American University of Nigeria (AUN).
During her visit to AUN in Yola, Adamawa State, where 68 survivors of the 2014 Boko Haram abduction are undergoing rehabilitation, the Minister expressed admiration for their resilience despite enduring unimaginable hardships.
She emphasized that the purpose of her visit was to assess the progress made by the girls and to strengthen the partnership with AUN in supporting their educational and personal growth.
“I want to assure you that everybody here is important, and your voice will be heard. We’ll work together to ensure that not just you, but also every empowered woman from Chibok, and anyone who wants to contribute, will be able to reach their full potential and support the emergence of the Nigeria World Dream,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said.
She highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of all Nigerians, especially women and children, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. The Minister also noted the significant rise in the ministry’s budget, which would help expand support for vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
“You all have done so well for yourselves. Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes, people experience loss and hardship. But the ability to rise above it is what makes you strong,” she added.
Prof. DeWayne Frazier, President of AUN, praised the Chibok girls for their intelligence and strength, noting their excellent adaptation to their new environment and success in their studies. “They are doing well in their field of study, having worked hard to overcome many challenges,” Frazier remarked.
The Chibok girls, who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014, are now receiving education and support at AUN, thanks to a collaboration with the Nigerian government.
During her visit, Minister Sulaiman-Ibrahim presented both material and cash gifts to the girls, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to their welfare and continued rehabilitation.
