Edo Government Denies Allegations of Non-Payment of Salaries to LG Workers

The Edo State Government has rejected reports claiming that local government workers are being owed salaries due to an ongoing crisis in the local government areas (LGAs).

In a statement issued in Benin City, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Fred Itua, dismissed the rumours as false and mischievous, aimed at misleading the public. He called on the public to disregard the claims, emphasizing that they were the work of individuals seeking to tarnish the achievements of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration.

Itua reaffirmed that no worker, whether in the state or local government, is owed any salary. He clarified that all salaries, including for January 2025, had been paid on time.

“The Edo State Government has continued to pay local government workers’ salaries without fail, even in the face of setbacks in allocation payments due to the ongoing legal issues with some local government chairmen,” Itua stated.

He further praised Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to workers’ welfare, noting that the administration’s approach has ensured no worker, regardless of status, suffers undue hardship.
