Federal Gov’t Approves ₦159.5bn For Infrastructure Projects In FCT
The Federal Government has approved ₦159.5 billion for five major infrastructure projects aimed at improving road networks, transportation, and access to estates across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The approval was granted through the FCT Administration as part of the government’s push to enhance development and connectivity in both urban and satellite areas of Abuja.
Minister of State for FCT, Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, revealed the approval to State House correspondents following the federal executive council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
Among the approved projects is the construction of a bus terminal at Mabushi, located within Cadastral Zone Plot B06, Phase II of Abuja. The project, valued at ₦30.97 billion, was awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited and is set to be completed within 18 months.
Another significant project is the construction of Arterial Road N1, which will connect Wuye District and Ring Road II in the capital. This project, worth ₦62.5 billion, was awarded to Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited and is expected to take 20 months to complete.
The government also approved the construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada dual carriageway, a vital route to enhance connectivity between key satellite towns. Awarded to Gilmo Engineering Nigeria Limited, the project is valued at ₦7.5 billion.
Further, the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road, a 15-kilometer stretch linking Kado Village to Dei-Dei and connecting with the Outer Northern Expressway Junction, was approved. This project, with a contract value of ₦26.87 billion, was awarded to Lubric Construction Company Limited and will be completed within 18 months.
Lastly, the construction of an access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Project within Karsana West District, Abuja, was also approved. This project, worth ₦31.66 billion, was awarded to Lubric Construction Company Limited, with an expected completion within 18 months.
The minister emphasized that these projects will improve mobility, foster socio-economic activities, and enhance access to residential and commercial developments within the FCT. The contracts will be closely monitored to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
