President Tinubu Celebrates Tems’ Grammy Win, Commends Nigerian Music Icons
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, for her victory at the 67th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. Tems won the Best African Music Performance award, marking a significant achievement in her career.
In a statement issued on Monday by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the singer’s unique artistry, which has brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage for the second time.
The President also hailed the emergence of a new generation of talented Nigerian artists who have helped elevate Afrobeats to international recognition, positioning Nigeria as a global hub for musical innovation, creativity, and cultural influence.
“From Africa to Antarctica, Asia to Australia, Europe to the Americas, Nigerian music—especially Afrobeats—has become a symbol of national pride, fostering a sense of identity and self-expression while uniting people across the world,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu extended his congratulations to other Nigerian artists nominated at this year’s Grammy Awards, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Lojay, Davido, and Burna Boy.
He expressed gratitude to the artists for putting Nigeria on the global map of music excellence and for showcasing the country’s creative talent. “You are all an inspiration and role models to countless young people. The nation is deeply thankful for your contributions to music, job creation, and the promotion of tourism. I wish you all continued success in your careers,” the President added.
