EFCC Urges Student Leaders to Collaborate in Tackling Internet Fraud
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has called for greater collaboration between the EFCC and student union leaders across Nigeria’s higher institutions to combat economic and financial crimes, emphasizing the importance of public awareness and commitment to anti-corruption efforts.
Olukoyede made this call in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, January 31, 2025, during an interactive session with the Student Union Executives of the University of Benin, who visited the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Commission.
Speaking on his behalf, the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Benin Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Effa Imoh Okim, highlighted the critical role of student unions in the fight against internet fraud, a growing issue tarnishing the nation’s reputation.
“Let’s work together to tackle the menace of economic and financial crimes, especially internet fraud, which is giving our country a bad name. As student leaders, you represent the future of Nigeria. We want to harness your energy and strength to build a better country. What the EFCC is doing is to safeguard your future from the criminals who seek to destroy it,” Olukoyede remarked.
He urged the student leaders to avoid internet fraud and other criminal activities, assuring them that their futures remain bright as long as they engage in legitimate endeavors. Olukoyede encouraged the students to carry this message back to their respective universities, promoting the importance of ethical conduct among their peers.
