Fire Guts Cassava Processing Factory in Oyo
A devastating fire broke out at a cassava processing factory located at Ebedi Layout, Alalukimba, Barrack area of Iseyin, Oyo State, destroying much of the facility. The incident occurred on Monday, with the Oyo State Fire Services Agency receiving a distress call at exactly 1:23 p.m.
The agency’s General Manager, Mr. Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the fire, stating that a team of firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Lasisi Banuso responded promptly to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the factory, made of prefabricated materials, fully engulfed in flames. The fire had spread quickly, but the firefighters were able to contain it and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties, including the Iseyin Educational Board building and another nearby cassava processing plant.
Akinyinka reported that the factory, unfortunately, suffered significant damage, with millions of naira worth of property lost in the fire. Preliminary investigations pointed to indiscriminate bush and undergrowth burning by an unidentified individual as the likely cause of the fire, which spread to the industrial facility.
The fire services team worked diligently to limit further destruction, though the damage to the factory was considerable.
