Kyari-led NNPCL Committed to Realising Domestic Gas Utilisation for All — Ugochinyere
Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), has expressed strong support for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under Mele Kyari’s leadership, emphasizing its commitment to achieving domestic gas utilisation for all.
Speaking during the award ceremony of gas distribution licences by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Abuja, Ugochinyere highlighted NNPCL’s leadership role in investing in domestic gas distribution, which he sees as vital for Nigeria’s economic growth.
He noted that the Nigerian government had made a significant step by awarding 10 gas distribution licences (GDL) to six companies, a move intended to boost the country’s gas utilisation efforts. This initiative aims to improve access to gas for both domestic and commercial users across the country.
Among the companies awarded the licences were NNPC Gas Marketing Limited, Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, Axxela, NIPCO Plc, Central Horizon Gas Company, and Falcon Corporation Limited. Ugochinyere pointed out that NNPC Gas Marketing Limited emerged as a leading recipient, reflecting its substantial investment in the country’s gas distribution infrastructure — a crucial factor for the long-term success of Nigeria’s gas utilisation goals.
He praised the NNPCL’s efforts, calling them a clear indication that the company is at the forefront of domestic gas investments. Ugochinyere assured Nigerians, as well as NNPCL and its private sector partners, of the continuous legislative support from the House Committee on Petroleum Resources to ensure energy sufficiency through such initiatives.
