Ogun State Suspends Monarch for Assaulting Subject in Viral Video

The Ogun State Government has imposed a six-month suspension on Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for actions deemed unbecoming of a traditional ruler. The suspension follows a viral video showing the monarch publicly humiliating Chief Arinola Abraham Love, one of his subjects.

In the video, Oba Ogunjobi is seen cursing Chief Love, who is kneeling on the road while the monarch accuses him of conspiracy. He also boasted about his influence over the Nigerian Police Force and threatened to imprison Chief Love, stating that he would bury him without consequence if he died. The monarch further humiliated Chief Love by removing his cap during the incident.

The Ogun State government condemned the actions, calling them inappropriate and inhumane. Following the incident, both Oba Ogunjobi and Chief Love were summoned by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for questioning. The suspension of the monarch was deemed necessary due to his reckless behavior and public misconduct, which was widely shared on social media.

In addition to the suspension, Oba Ogunjobi has been stripped of the Olorile-Ifo stool’s paraphernalia pending the outcome of the investigation into the allegations against him.
