Okpebholo Inaugurates Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University
On Tuesday, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, inaugurated the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, urging the Board to restore the university’s former prestige.
Speaking at the New Festival Hall of Government House in Benin City, the Governor emphasized the vital role of education in development, noting that AAU has an essential part to play in this process. He called on the new Council members to work with dedication, vision, and a sense of responsibility to bring back the university’s reputation as a center of academic excellence.
“Education is the bedrock of development, and Ambrose Alli University holds a special place in Edo State. The institution has produced some of the finest minds in Nigeria, and it is our duty to restore its lost glory and ensure its continued existence,” Okpebholo stated.
He highlighted his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the university, pointing out that one of the first steps taken was an increase in the institution’s monthly subvention from N41 million to N500 million. He also mentioned the introduction of special interventions aimed at boosting infrastructural development, ensuring both students and staff have the resources needed to succeed.
“We also addressed the challenges faced by over 100 medical students, resolving the issues and bringing joy back to their lives,” he added.
Okpebholo urged the newly inaugurated Council to make a meaningful impact during their tenure, expressing confidence in their ability to restore the university’s lost glory. “This is your time to make a lasting difference,” he told them. “Let us work together to restore AAU’s reputation and make it a beacon of academic excellence once again.”
The Governor also reassured the university community—its management, staff, and students—that his administration would continue to offer support in every way possible, with the goal of building a brighter future for AAU.
Chief Dan Orbih, Chairman of the Council, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve, stressing that education is key to the future of Edo State. He acknowledged the steps Okpebholo’s administration has already taken to revive the university, stating, “It is clear from the actions you have taken that you are committed to bringing the university back to life.”
