Olowu of Owu Kuta Honors Botswana General, Saudi Princess with Chieftaincy Titles

The Olowu of Owu Kuta, HRM Oba Dr. Hammeed Adekunle Makama, Tegbosun III, emphasized the importance of Owu chieftaincy titles, stating that they are not for sale but are reserved for individuals who truly deserve them.

This statement was made during a ceremony at his palace in Kuta town, Osun State, where the monarch conferred prestigious chieftaincy titles on two distinguished individuals: Brigadier General Michael Mukomani, a retired officer from the Botswana Army, and Princess Amani Bint Muhammed A Aljizani of Saudi Arabia.

Brigadier General Mukomani was bestowed with the title of ‘Otun Balogun Agba’ of Owu Kuta Kingdom, which means the Right Hand Man of the King, while Princess Amani received the title of ‘Erelu Fiwagboye’ of Owu Kuta, a role that includes leading community development initiatives in the kingdom.

Oba Makama expressed his admiration for Gen. TY Buratai (rtd), Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Ambassador to Benin Republic, who accompanied the honorees to the palace. The monarch praised Gen. Buratai for his continued support and announced that he had been officially adopted as an Owu son. Buratai, who is also the Balogun Agba of Owu Kuta, expressed his pride in being part of the event.

Earlier, Gen. Buratai shared his personal connection with Gen. Mukomani, recalling their meeting at the War College in Bangladesh and highlighting Mukomani’s success in Botswana’s Army. He added that although Mukomani did not win a seat in Botswana’s last elections, he remained confident in his future political success due to his impressive character and accomplishments.

The event saw the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Orangun of Oke-Ila; Oba Hakeem Ogungbangbe, Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesu; Oba Kamodudeen Obaloyan; and Oba Moses Agunsoye, Elebura of Ijebu-Ijesa, among others.

On behalf of the newly honored chiefs, Brigadier General Mukomani expressed his gratitude for the honor. He promised to contribute to the progress of Owu Kuta Kingdom and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Yoruba culture. Mukomani, who hails from Botswana, committed to serving as a true ambassador of the Yoruba people, bringing their traditions back to Botswana.

The event marked an important occasion in the continued strengthening of ties between the Owu Kuta Kingdom and international dignitaries.
