Russia Warns Britons and Others Against Traveling to Military Zones in Ukraine
The Russian Government has issued a warning to British nationals and other foreign citizens against traveling to military zones in Ukraine, citing the risks to their safety. The Russian Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, released a statement on Tuesday cautioning individuals from Britain and other countries not to enter the areas of active combat, known as Special Military Operation zones, due to the immediate danger to their lives and health.
The Russian authorities emphasized that non-Ukrainian nationals who join Ukraine-linked military units are regarded as mercenaries by the Russian Armed Forces. “They are considered legitimate targets,” the statement said, adding that if captured, these individuals could face criminal prosecution under Russian law.
The United Kingdom and its allies, including the United States, have been providing Ukraine with military aid, diplomatic support, and financial assistance throughout the ongoing conflict with Russia, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. This support has drawn sharp criticism from the Russian government, led by President Vladimir Putin.
There is growing speculation that U.S. President Donald Trump may intervene in the conflict and push for a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine to bring an end to the escalating war.
