Court Jails UNIUYO Professor 3 Years For Electoral Fraud

A University of Uyo (UNIUYO) professor, Ignatius Uduk, has been sentenced to three years in prison by an Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo for electoral fraud during the 2019 general elections.

The court found Prof. Uduk guilty of two of the three counts brought against him by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Bassey Nkanang, delivering the judgment on Wednesday, acquitted Uduk on Count 1. However, he was convicted and sentenced to three years of imprisonment on Counts 2 and 3, which are to run concurrently.

This conviction follows the earlier case of another UNIUYO professor, Peter Ogban, who was also found guilty of similar electoral fraud charges and sentenced to three years in prison after his trial, which began in 2019, related to the 2019 general elections.
